Amy Tinning

 

Originally from rural Queensland, Amy has trained and performed extensively from a young age throughout; North Queensland, Central Highlands, the Darling Downs, Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast. Prior to being accepted into Edith Cowan University, where she recently graduated with a Bachelor of Performing Arts from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). She has had exposure to a wide variety of genres; classical ballet, Russian/Polish character dancing, Jazz, Hip-hop, Tap, Kung-fu, Yoga, Pilates, Silks, Contact Improvisation, Chinese movement, Capoeira and Acrobatics. Throughout her training, she has attended dance intensives at; Brent Street, Australian Dance Performing Institute (where she was awarded a full scholarship), Queensland Youth Ballet (became a member of the touring company in 2005), Australian Ballet School, Prudence Bowen Atelier (offered a position in full-time training program), Expressions Dance Company, Sydney Dance Company and Australian Dance Theatre.

 

Under the guidance of Benita Whalley and Alison Vallete, Amy has completed all of her graded and vocational Royal Academy of Dance examinations (until Advanced 2), for all of which she was awarded Distinction. Amy received private contemporary dance training under the guidance of Jenifer Murray (2007 - 2010), gaining exposure to the Martha Graham technique. Throughout her training and career Amy has had a wide range of dance theatre, musical theatre and comercial dance performance opportunities.

 

Since attending WAAPA (2011-2013), highlights during her studies include; performing the lead female role in Xiaoxing Zhang's, Rite of Spring and being selected to go on exchange to Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA). Whilst at TNUA, Amy performed in Natalie Wier's work, His Weeping. In 2013 Amy toured to Beijing, China, performing Rite of Spring, as well as Kim McCarthy's, Violin's. In her final performance season at WAAPA she featured in Leigh Warren's original work, There Is No Time Like The Present.

 

When she joined LINK Dance Company in 2014 Amy performed in Natalie Allan's debut work, Lab S, as well as Tomas Moricz, Profusion. Most recently Amy has returned from Europe, where she toured with LINK Dance Company performing both works in Montpellier (France) and Amsterdam (Netherlands).

 

Amy has also conducted a number of Educational Dance Intensive workshops for children in remote and regional areas. In 2011 she was comissioned by Bianca's School of Dance (Collinsville) to choreograph for the end of year production. In 2014 she conducted "Lets Dance" Summer Intensive for the children of the McKinlay Shire. Amy has also been a full-time dance teacher at Step Up Dance Academy (Perth) since 2011. She is passionate about teaching dance and has found great joy in establishing BRANCHES Performing Arts, offering classes in Julia Creek & Cloncurry.
